Hi Parents, Thank you to everyone who signed up for interviews. If you have not signed up please login on MYCBE account. I have posted a weekly review in pictures below. Hi Parents, I have heard from parents that the link I posted regarding camps did not work. I have reposted it below along with a few other resources. Thanks! Kirsty Should I send my child with a sensory or speech problem to summer camp? Posted by Trish Williams on Jun 2, 2017 in Fine Motor Skills, Gross Motor Skills, Life Skills FacebookTwitterLinkedInGoogle+EmailShareAs a parent, an Occupational Therapist and a business owner who works exclusively with children, I am a firm believer in the value of summer camps for all children. Traits such as resiliency, growing social skills and engagement in physical activity have been proven to develop at summer camp. Summer camps are a safe space for kidsFull disclosure – we are a summer camp family. My siblings and I grew up attending camp, and it has become a high priority for my own children. I went on to participate in my camp’s Counsellor in Training program and was on staff for many years and this summer, my 16 year old son is about to do the same. My daughter calls camp “my safe place” and “the place I can be most myself.” Is it any surprise that after I expanded my clinic, one of my biggest passion projects was to build our own summer camp? OT and SLP skills at summer campOccupational Therapists and Speech-Language Pathologists work diligently with children throughout the school year. Increasing a child’s ability to attend and focus (away from screens!), learning how to think about others, language development and improving fine and gross motor skills are examples of our goals in our 1:1 therapy sessions with children and families. Summer camp is a great way to continue to offer these areas of focus, with the added value of practicing these skills in a social setting. That’s real life function! Summer camps can be invaluable experiences for our kids in this age of technology and busy parents. Camps that offer opportunities for children to work on language development, fine ad gross motor skills and focus provide children carry over therapy goals throughout a long summer away from school and provide a head start for the coming school year. Join us this summer! Hi Parents,
Next week we will have school on Monday and Tuesday. There will be no school on Wednesday or Thursday due to interviews. Interview registration will open this Friday. Please login through myCBE account to book an interview time. Have a great weekend! Ms. Kirsty Hi Parents, 1. A few notices went home today from our parent council. Please look for notes in backpacks. 2. Please visit the following link from our SLP and OT regarding summer camps. http://springot.com/why-summer-camp/ 3. I have updated our Weekly Review in Pictures from last week. Check the blog tomorrow to learn about some of the new table time activities we are exploring this week! Hi Parents, Please see our Weekly Review in Pictures. This week you will see pictures of many building activities! In our play dough center we created road ways to drive our construction vehicles on. In our building center we had fun learning how to use pretend tools. We even used our knowledge of building to create a fort out of matts! Our afternoon class had a special visit from Crackers who is a hamster that lives in one of our grade three classrooms. We practiced waiting and using our eyes instead of using our hands! Enjoy!
